One week down, five more to go. It seems my mind is caught in a sort of purgatory as it reels from the thought of my graduation date steadily approaching. Not helping is a slight tingling of Spring that is in the air. Not necessarily the sweat inducing -8 degrees Celsius, but just the enchanting sunlight that lingers after 4 PM. Also, I am struggling to plan a unit on illustration and graphic novels for my grade 10 to 12s, which of course requires me to delve deep into my shopping bag of comics from the downtown library, for research. The whole concept of Comic Novella is strangely new to me, I have read my fair share of Archie Digests, but the Riverdale gang never ventured far into the realm of Tolkien-flavoured adventures or time-twisting short stories with tragic world-collapsing endings. I am more familiar with Archie's unrelenting nonsexual promiscuity between wholesome Betty Cooper and bratty Veronica Lodge, not to mention the obscenely high metabolism of Jughead Jones; stories whose length ventured long enough for a bowel-movement. Needless to say, it is difficult to think of lesson plans when these uniquely illustrated stories have captured my attention in such an undivided state.
Alas, my first week of practicum has proven to be an adventure. From writing an incident report describing my awkward extinguishing of a girl-fight, to assisting high school students in the formation of a snow-sculpture at Festival du Voyager, from watching an obese student hungrily unwrap and re-wrap a submarine sandwich six times during the class before lunch and pat it like a friend's shoulder after a fine adventure, to presenting an animation in a large ballroom to a small audience of twenty-five non-Winnipegonian student teachers, from experiencing the heavy stomach induced by seeing our illegally parked Cavalier hitched to a tow truck, to being tricked into discussing the importance of art to a skeptical student who smokes pot with his mother. This is an exhausting time for me, and I am having trouble prioritizing the things that are important. Fortunately, I am not bored.

Ack! Your car got towed? That's never fun. I did that once when living on River... thought to myself after work "hey! what the... did my car get stolen?!? I thought I parked right HERE! You know, under the sign that says... oh. CRAP."
Not cheap, either.
Have you been watching Heroes? (it's on Global.. not sure if you pick that up) It's supposed to be a graphic novel in real life. It's pretty good, although takes itself a little seriously. It's nothing like Archie in real life, either. Still, interesting!
i've heard good things about Heroes. But i think that it's too late for me to get into the proverbial "loop". Plus, (speaking of tv habits) i can't forget my obligation towards Grey's Anatomy.
GARG, i still can't stop reading the material i borrowed from the library. My brain was MADE for graphic novels!
