Our "souvenirs" of pink skin can only be held as tender badges of honour. Yes, Canadians can get burnt even with our achingly acute angle of the Sun.
We were provided a place to live, beginning September, last week. Hearing the manager's approval of our credit and references was akin to receiving the goodwill of my new job at The School; my phone hand was shaking and my voice like that of a prepubescent. Of course, after searching all over the southern portion of the city, God was brewing His own scheme of sorts, a Scheme which only He can bless. This apartment is within a walkable distance of the university. Instead of traversing what is mentally and emotionally measured as one kilometre down the hall to our laundry facilities (especially so when the good dryer contains some stranger's unmentionables after the second spying), they will now be, an undreamed magical word, in-suite. His Timing, His Blessing, His Scheming, is impeccable, every single time.
(And I cannot forgo mentioning the wood burning fireplace in which I can finally use one of those multicolour flame logs from Superstore. But I am sure roasting marshmallows over one can only produce one of two things: a malignant growth of some sort, or fire engine red pee.)
My friend, Leopky, is a handsome and wholesome bachelor whom I met during my Art Years at the university. This fellow can draw. Not shtick men, nor fruitless doodles (though I am sure he could produce masterpieces of either), but truly jaw dropping renderings of any noun. Using only a bic ballpoint and the time granted from not watching TV he has created a masterful portfolio of crosshatched and visually stunning drawings. I will be sure to post any artwork of his that I come across as soon as possible.
Julia has prodded and poked me into drawing more. After being commissioned twice this summer to produce drawings and logos for summer day camps, and not to mention having been reminded of techniques from Leopky, I have finally scratched a drawing of which I am somewhat proud. It is a portion of a photo from last summer. I used 0.1 and 0.05 Staedtler pigment liners.

Apparently "arrestingly" is not a word. 52 mins.

Praise God for your new appartment! And congratulations on your impending inauguration as a S.C.H.ool teacher!
I like your drawing, and I think it's important that an Art teacher should actually draw occassionally :-) We spend so much time in pursuit of a Degree so that we can teach, but the best teachers are those who are still engaged in their pursuit (I speak as much to myself, when I tutor kids in Math but haven't solved a really challenging equation in several fortnights).
Yay, for the Canadian summer, and the (fleeting) red badge! Believe it or not, we were cold in Zimbabwe - it's much hotter here in Canada! How strange is that? But we can't laugh too hard ... Winter is coming :-)
So glad to hear you are well! You're right: God's timing is always impeccable.
